The Most Valuable Book You Will Ever Write Is the One Only You Can Write

Why originality - not imitation - is the foundation of lasting influence

Each year, many newly published books enter the world of publishing.

These books cover a plethora of topics, including business, leadership, finance, personal development, health, and even spirituality.

The fact that there are so many new books published annually does not stop people from looking for books that provide something unique.

Why is that? It is mainly because the information is easily available and original point of view is not.

Many potential writers procrastinate about their writing believing that there is nothing new that can be written on a topic already explored by others successfully.

Readers are in search of a different approach rather than the topic.

The truth is that every person has his/her own life experience, achievements, and failures.

Don't Write the Book the Market Already Has

You may feel inclined to follow the fad.

Once a certain topic is trending, multiple writers rush to write similar pieces.

Although understanding what matters to the reading audience is important, writing only to copy someone else is unlikely to be effective in the long run.

Readers are great at identifying truthfulness and they love authors who write from their own experience rather than ideas taken from others.

Instead of asking, "What books are doing well right now?" it is better to ask yourself, "What kind of knowledge does someone else need from my experience?"

Your Story Is Part of Your Expertise

Experts possess important knowledge that improves the seriousness of that knowledge.

It is the experience that conveys the confidence of that knowledge.

Readers respect writers who provide both successful and unsuccessful practices as people value openness and honesty

Lessons learned by you may be the lessons sought by other people

Your mistakes that were buried and hidden may serve the purpose of trusting the writer.

Write With Service in Mind

Most powerful books are not written to impress people:

They are written to assist them.

As soon as the focus shifts from demonstrating expertise to helping readers, the writing develops in its natural way of being more helpful, interesting, and relatable.

Readers don't expect perfection

Rather, they expect value.

Each chapter should be designed to answer one question:

“How is this going to help people?”

If authors consistently ask themselves this question, their books become more than books, they become the resources that readers refer back to over and over again.

Originality Leaves a Legacy

It is not necessarily the case that the books that last the longest are the ones that have had plenty of money spent on them for marketing purposes.

On the contrary, it is often the case that the book offers fresh perspectives on issues which have already been seen before.

Years later people could forget all the numbers and formulas given in your book.

What is, however, important is that they will know how the book changed their lives.

And that is what makes a piece of writing truly original.

You should not attempt to produce a book that some other author could easily write.

You should rather focus on creating the book that only you can write
