When God Gives You a Message: The Responsibility of Christian Authors to Steward Their Words Well
This is a subtitle for yourChristian writing is more than sharing ideas — it is a calling to serve, encourage, teach, and impact lives through words. new post
According to many Christian writers, writing starts with a burden.
Burden can be a lesson learned during a hard time or some knowledge that comes through a lifetime.
Once it gets turned into a manuscript, it comes in the form of a conviction whereas Christian writers face the question of whether they are able to write the book or whether God has endowed them with this message and how they should use it.
Christian authorship is more than just putting words on paper. It is a chance to help others with wisdom, inspiration, truth, and personal experience.
Words matter.
And power brings responsibility.
Writing Is an Act of Stewardship
Everything that has been entrusted to us deserves stewardship.
That includes our time, talents, experiences, knowledge, and opportunities.
In addition, for Christian writers, their ability to write is also a gift that needs to be treated with care.
As reminded by the Bible:
“As each has received a gift, use it for serving one another, as good stewards of God’s grace.” — 1 Peter 4:10
Writing is more than mere expression of one’s personal thoughts or achieving fame and recognition.
One must also think about:
Who benefits from this message?
How can this work help someone?
How does this book lead its readers to the truth, hope, and wisdom?
Christian Books Should Meet People Where They Are
A strong Christian book can be found outside of being just in the church setting.
This means that it can be found in one’s home, at the workplace, in the neighborhoods, and during the times of individual solitude.
Sometimes people will turn to a book in difficult situations.
People may need directions from a young believer.
Those who have troubles might look for motivation in a book.
A church leader might wish to find wisdom in a biblical book.
Family might seek information about biblical practices.
Christian publishing is important because books can overcome the limits of religious establishments.
The Responsibility to Write With Truth and Grace
Christian writers must represent their beliefs faithfully and with care. This does not mean that every writer’s work should be the same.
Christian writers have different experiences, audiences, and vocations. Nevertheless, the principles should be the same: truth, humility, love and building others.
The Apostle Paul states:
"Let your conversation be full of grace, seasoned with salt so that you may know how to answer everyone." — Colossians 4:6
This verse is about conversation, but the principle applies to writing as well.
Words should carry both conviction and compassion.
The writer should not write just to win arguments.
The aim is transformation.
Your Story Can Become Someone Else's Encouragement
Numerous Christian books carry significant meaning due to their origin from genuine experiences. A restoration testimony can lift the spirits of a hopeless individual. A lesson imparted through pain can motivate someone on the path of suffering.
A faith experience can be a reminder that God is always reliable. Nevertheless, it does not imply that writers should share everything that happened in their lives. Being wise and prudent is very valuable. However, when shared properly, personal experiences may serve as links between the author's journey and the reader's needs.
Christian Authors Are Contributors to Culture
The role books play in conversations is important. Books create viewpoints. They save thoughts for posterity. Historically, Christian writers have played a huge role in culture by addressing such topics as faith, ethics, leadership, families, and purpose.
Today, this responsibility continues to exist. Society requires not only content but also wise voices that share truth.
Christian writers have a chance to make their contributions to society and stay true to their beliefs.
The Goal Is Faithfulness, Not Just Recognition
Every writer wants their writing to touch people's lives. There’s nothing wrong with wanting to have an effect.
However, when it comes to Christian writing, success cannot only be based on sales, rankings, or popularity.
Those were helpful indicators, but it is not the ultimate criterion for success.
All that matters is whether a message was delivered.
Did it accomplish its goal?
Did it inspire anyone?
Did it convey its message?
Did it express the reason for writing?
A book can have a great public reach or a powerful private effect, and both forms of impact are worth noting.
Words That Continue Beyond the Author
A book differs from other means of communication in that it keeps talking beyond the physical presence of its author.
A talk finishes.
A lecture ends.
However, a book can lay on a shelf, travel the world through the hands of readers, and still make a difference for years after it has been composed.
Moreover, it is our duty as Christian authors to write books with care and clear intent.
The question is not only about what we want to say.
The essential question is: what has been placed in our hands by God and how to use it in accordance with His will?
For Christian writers, each printed text should mean more than an opportunity to publish.
It should mean an opportunity to serve.
Words filled with wisdom, love and clear motivation can become effective instruments of change, encouragement, and development.
